Both are great games, however the dominant consensus is that Civ IV still has perfectly nice graphics and is a much better game in terms of depth and balance (assuming you have Beyond the Sword). Brother printer drivers for mac Just the diplomacy, by itself, makes me choose IV over V. I hate people who are always saying 'New version of game X isn't as good as old version of game X', but with regards to Civ IV, I think it's a fair statement.

Also, despite being 'deeper', I don't think IV is any harder to learn than V. If anything, the years and years of balance patches it has received probably makes things more intuitive with fewer 'gotchas'.

Thanks y'all. I procured a copy of V and I have played about 4-5 hours of it and like it, but it seemed like diplomacy was kind of pointless. I thought I wasn't 'getting it' but after reading around I'm not the only one. I like combat, but I think it sounds awesome to be able to win in more ways than one.

I'll probably get CIV IV complete from steam (it's like $30 I think) and delete my 'trial' copy of CIV V. Are there any expansions beyond the ones in complete I need? Am I fine to run it in mac or should I run it through boot camp?

Gmail for mac os. Warlords was the first expansion and Beyond the Sword was the second. Beyond the Sword contains everything from vanilla and Warlords except some of the scenarios that were in Warlords. You'll never miss them. It might be worth getting your start on vanilla, but once you're ready to do the expansions, just jump to Beyond the Sword. Also, look into BUG mod or BAT mod.

BUG is BtS Unaltered Gameplay and it gives a bunch of small interface tweaks to provide you with more and better information. BAT is BtS Altered Terrain. It is BUG plus some graphical enhancements and unique unit art for each civ. They add a lot to the game without actually changing the game. On the PC it just involves copying some files to a folder where Civ is installed.

It should be pretty much the same on a Mac. Actually, a quick search revealed this: • Download and expand the zip file to produce a folder called BUGMod_4.x • Create a folder called BUG Mod in ~/Documents/Civilization IV Beyond the Sword/ • Move the Info and UserSettings folders from BUGMod_4.x/ into the new ~/Documents/Civilization IV Beyond the Sword/Bug Mod/ folder • Move the contents of BUGMod_4.1/PrivateMaps/ into ~/Documents/Civilization IV Beyond the Sword/PublicMaps/ • Move the contents of BUGMod_4.x/Assets/ into ~/Documents/Civilization IV Beyond the Sword/CustomAssets/, replacing the existing CustomAssets contents. • If you have Blue Marble in CustomAssets already then do not delete/replace any existing Blue Marble files.
